小序The Poet’s Preface

丁酉訪廬山。同是暮春時節遊大林寺，白樂天為之寫下"長恨春歸無覓處，不知轉入此中來"的大林寺已蕩然無存，難以憑弔。千年之後的這片土地上只有桃花依然盛開，雨後微風中含情低首，頻頻致意，一如當時

In the year of Dingyou, I visited Mount Lu. It was late spring, the same season when Bai Letian came here, and wrote, "Long I grieved that spring had nowhere gone—until I found it had entered this place." Yet now the Dalin Temple is gone, its halls dispersed into the winds of time. A thousand years have passed, but the peach blossoms still bloom—bowing softly in the post-rain breeze, as if greeting the absent guests of ages past.

桃花仍對暮春風，寺去人歸今古同。淚灑江州無限雨，晨昏長洗千年紅。

The peach blossoms still meet the late-spring wind;the temple is gone, and those who came are gone—It was the same a thousand years ago.Tears fall into the endless rain of Jiangzhou,washing that thousand-year red from dawn to dusk.

註釋Annotation

大林寺廬山寺院故址，因白居易《大林寺桃花》而為人熟知。
江州白居易曾任司馬之地，今江西九江一帶。
千年紅以桃花之紅連接古今；「千年」為概數。

鑑賞Appreciation

寺院已去，桃花仍開，四句就在這一存一逝之間展開。白居易的身影不必正面出場，江州與淚雨已使兩次登臨相遇。末句讓朝暮之雨反覆洗過千年的花色，時間不再只是距離，也成為後來者理解前人的方式。

The temple is gone, yet the peach blossoms return. The poem develops within that contrast between disappearance and renewal. Jiangzhou and the mingling of tears with rain bring Bai Juyi’s earlier visit into the present without requiring him to appear directly. As morning and evening wash the enduring colour of the flowers, time becomes a medium of recognition as well as distance.
